Strobe Talbot are Jad Fair, Mick Hobbs, and Benb Gallaher. Jad and David Fair formed Half Japanese in Maryland in the early 1970's. With their revolutionary sound and musical approach,Half Japanese served as a linchpin for both punk and post-punk movements.
Mick Hobbs joined Half Japanese in 1990. An English multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Mick had served in many different and forward-looking groups over the preceding fifteen years, including Family Fodder (as a founding member), The Work (with Henry Cow's Tim Hodgkinson), the Orchestre Murphy, the Kalahari Surfers (with Chris Cutler), the Momes, Officer!, and myriad of others.
Benb Gallaher was the drummer and organist in a band called The Jaunties which featured Jason Willett (bass player of Half Japanese).
The band called themselves Strobe for a bit where they released a CD on a label in Portugal called Low Fly in limited edition of 550 copies. But then they changed it to Strobe Talbot since there was another band by the name of Strobe.
This was recorded in Spain, Portugal and Maine over the course of a year. It features 21 songs (track 21 is hidden after track 20) in 52 minutes. Musically it is not unlike a Half Japanese/Jad Fair album, yet leaning more towards quirky pop.
