KULTUR SHOCK "HOUSE OF KULTUR" MUSIC VIDEO COLLECTION
As the count down to Kultur Shock's physical release of "House of Shock" has commenced (though you can already stream the incredible album on your favorite streaming platform), it seems like we should take a moment to appreciate the incredible collection of music videos released for "House of Kultur"!
For those who do not know, Kultur Shock was started by singer Gino Srdjan Yevdjevich in Seattle, WA in 1996, he would go on to become the beating heart of one of the most consequential genre-bending bands of the last couple of decades, but also the de-facto grandfather of a movement that people today casually refer to as gipsy punk! Since then, Kultur Shock has embarked on a never ending path of experimentation, mixing Balkan folk melodies and bizarre meters with face melting metal and blood pumping punk rock, being lyrical, obnoxious, political, irreverent, all the while respecting every influence they’ve had to make the Bosnian sevdah more sevdah, the rock more rock, and gipsy-punk-metal what it currently is - a culture shock.
To describe Kultur Shock’s style and sound, people usually refer to Gogol Bordello, System of a Down, Dubioza Kolektiv, Manu Chao, The Pogues or Band of Four but none of that does the band a justice, because Kultur Shock’s sound and approach to music is literally in a league of their own.
This year they have released an incredible double album collection consisting of both "House of Kultur" and "House of Shock". With the pre-order for "House of Shock" about to launch, we thought we should take a moment to review the incredible collection of songs that "House of Kultur" has been, with a look at the music videos released for the album.
First up is the first single they released, "Snijeg"!
The band had this to say about the music video:
"In cooperation with BH Pride March Kultur Shock is honored to officialy join the march in the fight for general human rights of all the people on this planet in order to be proud of who they are. On our latest European tour we are playing this new song every night with an explanation who is the song dedicated to and who is it related to. The reactions we have found from Greek, Bulgarian, Makedonia, Serbian, Croatian, BiH, Slovenian public surpassed all of our expectations--that is only NORMAL! Because on one side there is violence and on the other side there is only LOVE! It's not hard to choose a side this time."
The second music video they released, was for "Iluzije" and was directed by vocalist Gino Jevđević and recorded in collaboration with Recorded in collaboration with: The Bridal Sisters butoh dance company
The third track to get a spotlight was the comic book style video for "Promaja"! Edited and directed by Dima Levanchuk with Comic book drawings by Tico Tikulin!
Finally, the release of "Bosna in Time" which was directed and edited by Sanjin Hasanefendić & Doris Dodig - Točka Kulture
