SPINDRIFT is a cinematically-driven psychedelic “western” rock band based out of Los Angeles, CA led by singer-songwriter-producer-composer Kirpatrick Thomas. Getting their start in the 90’s in Newark, Delaware inspired by 60’s psychedelic influences like The Doors and 90’s Shoegaze such as My Bloody Valentine, SPINDRIFT meticulously crafted their songwriting approach. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2001, the band was captivated by the unfolding western landscape and began to take a more mature conceptual, cinematic approach resembling more of a psychedelic 4 piece spaghetti western orchestra (Sergio Leone/ Ennio Morricone) which continues to evolve to this day.

Stylistically, SPINDRIFT has gone through many aesthetic variations since their beginning almost 30 years ago. SPINDRIFT’s sound has settled as that of an electro-psych-rock orchestra, that has been tasked with recording the score to Spaghetti Western Grindhouse films, composed by Ennio Marricone. SPINDRIFT create massive scenic vistas with their musical arrangements, thematically evoking the experience of 19th century frontiersman, struggling to persevere harsh and listless conditions of the desert, in their journey across the uncharted Wild West. So vivid is the imagery conveyed by this delicate balance of outlaw psych-rock and western cinema, that you’ll soon be imagining your own sound effects of gunfire, coyote howls, and faint yodeling permeating from a campfire in the distance. The dramatic brilliance of SPINDRIFT’s sound is stunning enough to provide you with the synesthetic feeling that you are watching the music unfold on a 70mm film screen at Sundance. A match made in heaven for fans of Quentin Tarantino’s soundtrack selections.

Among many various EP/Single releases, SPINDRIFT has produced and was featured in two feature films with soundtracks available on Teepee Records (The Legend of Gods Gun, Ghost of the West), two LP’s on Xemu Records (Classic Soundtracks Vol 1 & The West), added scoring to HBO’s “East Bound & Down”, Quentin Tarantino’s “Hell Ride”, Viceland’s “Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia”, and have actively toured the USA and EUROPE since 2004 performing with acts such as X, The Dandy Warhols, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Dead Meadow, The Black Angels, and Kurt Vile. They helped incite the psychedelic revival of the 2000’s performing at Austin Psych Fest, Levitation, Liverpool Psych Fest, SXSW, and have even screened and performed live at Park City’s Slamdance Film Festival and Spain’s Almerian Western Film Festival 2014 and 2017.

SPINDRIFT collaborated with punk legend, Jello Biafra over the years on a variety of tracks including a cover of “Ghost Riders in the Sky”, and with Hollywood/Bollywood actor/actress Sapna Gandhi and Bivas Biswas on the Hindi sung “Dil Gera Na De (Don’t Fall For Me)” released via Divine Droid Records.

In Fall 2019, SPINDRIFT and Jello Biafra will work together once again to release Classic Soundtracks Volume 3 on the Alternative Tentacles Records. As with their previous release, Classic Soundtracks Volume 1 & 2, the album explores the bands musical resume for film scoring. Covering new ground with exploitation themes, sci fi, as well as their staple spaghetti western sounds.
