Alternative Tentacles is proud to present “Playa Nuclear”, the brand-new album from Tijuana, B.C. Mexico’s own DFMK. Started in 2009, DFMK have released several EP’s and a Full-Length LP before meeting Jello Biafra at an underground “if you know a punk” show at a motorcycle shop in Oakland, CA that led to the release of the “Dame Peligro” 7” in 2022.
“Playa Nuclear” comes out swinging with dirty and mean rock n’ roll with a punk rock soul. Driving tempos, melodic riffs, raw leads, and high-octane vocals will make the album an instant favorite for hardcore punk fans. “Playa Nuclear” is the second full-length by the band since the self-titled LP debut in 2021!
Recorded in 2023 in Tijuana by DFMK’s long-time friend and collaborator Fernando Morales, who also worked on many of the EP releases from the band including “Dame Peligro”. Mastered by Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO who the band has worked with many times as well. The album features artwork by Boom Boom Kid, aka Nekro, a punk rock icon from Buenos Aires, Argentina (of the bands Fun People, Boom Boom Kid) who also contributes vocals on “Tengo Lo Que Necesito” on the album, along with keyboards by Nicole Laurenne, from labelmates The Darts on the title track “Playa Nuclear” and “Sometidos y Aburridos”!
“We’re super excited about this new record,” says vocalist Mr. Cap,“It’s a bit of a step away from our old party songs and nihilistic vibes. This time we dive into themes like emotional withdrawal, loneliness, human corruption, immigrant rights, co-dependency with alcohol, mental health and friendships.”
Mr. Cap is joined on the album by bassist Fernando Cruz, guitarist Boti, and drummer Alex Cota. Their relentless touring of both Mexico and the U.S.A. helped unify their vision for this new album, with every member contributing both musically and lyrically to the record. The lyrics cover a broad range of topics, shaped by each member’s unique perspective. With “Playa Nuclear” you get an unapologetic, no-nonsense attitude that’s both accessible and real which is everything great about DFMK.
